Literary Legends update
Congratulations to our Literary Legends, Frankie Bailey and Alice Green! We look forward to telling you more about their great work throughout the year!
An Evening with the Authors: Save the date – Thursday, June 7th – for An Evening with the Authors at the APL Washington Ave Branch, 2nd Floor Community Room. This will be a wine-and-dessert fundraiser event, featuring a conversation between our two honorees. Tickets will go on sale on 4.30.
Red Queen Dies reading: APL Foundation will present a reading of four excerpts of The Red Queen Dies at various locations in Albany. The final reading will take place on the Yellow Brick Road. Other locations are TBD. Contact the Foundation if you would like to sign up as a reader. Thursdays in July from 5:30 to 8pm. Save the dates: July 5, 12, 19, and 26.
More books at Howe: There’s a pretty good collection of Frankie Bailey’s books in the UHLS catalog, but not too many at the Howe Branch. Thanks to a gift from the author, there will now be more books at Howe! We’ll post a picture when they arrive.
South End Scene History: The Howe Branch will present an exhibition case with copies of the Library’s collection of The South End Scene, Albany’s longest running black-owned newspaper, founded by our honoree, Alice Green. The Howe Branch will organize a local history project about the South End Scene, and Dr. Green will participate in the Howe Branch’s South End: Then and Now project. And, the APL Foundation will create a new Wikipedia article for The South End Scene newspaper this year.
We are still adding more celebrations this year, leading up to our 5th Annual Literary Legends Gala on October 20th.
